Perhaps it was just a little more touching to me because it reminds me of my little babies and how they curl their legs up and bring their hands towards their face while they're sleeping, bringing themselves back to utero position because it's familiar and comforting to them. And they are content to be there and just be.
It reminds me of the creation process for every living thing on this planet, and how that really is a miracle...even these little chameleons! I live for those quiet moments in reverence of new life. I think we should all be a little more self-aware of those kind of beginnings in ourselves too. Not just physically, but mentally, spiritually and emotionally. What an incredible gift.
Also, you can totally see a physical representation of the Fibonacci sequence in the second picture, which is pretty rad. It's amazing to me how strong these little guys are after they are born and how they just instinctively know what to do.
For copyright reasons I can't post the pictures on my blog, but you really, really, really should go check out the National Geographic page here.
Happy Discovering!
P.S. The baby chameleon featured in these pictures is not much bigger than a fetus at 6 weeks of gestation, when most people first find out they are pregnant. At this point the little baby has all of their body systems - though obviously underdeveloped - which is incredible.
